Unlike conventional turbines that use blades or buckets, the Tesla turbine consists of smooth, parallel discs. A moving fluid, such as steam or air, is introduced at the edges of these discs, and as the fluid adheres to and moves along the disc surfaces due to viscosity and adhesion, it imparts energy to the discs, causing them to rotate.
