Working with us, you can expect high-quality 21 websites with responsive designs that look good on any browser - desktop, mobile, or 22 anything in between. Here's how it works: 23
24
25 We start by putting together an approximate idea of what the finished product should look 26 like. This might include referencing other webpages, deciding on a color scheme, building 27 a branding package, or choosing a pre-defined template. 28
29
30 Once we have a clear idea of the design that we would like to aim for, we can start developing 31 the site. This is an interactive process, which means that we'll be regularly checking in to 32 see if there's any course correction that needs to happen as we go. This process should take 33 between one and two weeks for an entry-level website. 34
35 36
37 At the end of the development process, you will recieve a package of files that constitute 38 your website - this package is yours to keep. It will contain all of the files you 39 need to host your website in the way you choose. They will be packaged as basic HTML, CSS, 40 and Javascript files and documented with a README. This will make it easy for any developer 41 (not just us!) to pick up and go from there. If you want more help from there, we offer more 42 services below. 43
44 45

46
Web Hosting
47 48
In addition to developing websites, we also offer subscription services for hosting them 49 on the internet. Hosting requires a computer to be available at all times to respond to 50 requests, which means that we cannot offer it as a one-time fee. Additionally, domain name 51 registration requires renting out the domain over time, which is a service that we can 52 manage on your behalf.
53
We use reliable, well-known services with good uptime statistics. Setup should be a 54 one-time operation that leaves you with direct access to the server where the website is 55 hosted. From there, you are free to make changes to the website as you wish.
56
We are happy to help guide you through the process of setting up these subscriptions 57 independently, however we offer this service to our clients as a convenience.
58 59

60
Site Upkeep and Maintenance
61 62
If required, we are willing to offer support and maintenance for the 63 projects we take on. Since our goal is building independence for our clients, we try 64 to encourage folks to take a DIY approach and give them the skills they need to do 65 this work on their own terms.
66
That said, some of our clients do not have the capacity to balance learning a new 67 skill with everything in their busy schedule. In these cases, we offer maintenance 68 plans by monthly subscription. These plans include: 69
70
Ongoing development
71
Uptime monitoring
72
Secondary service management (mail servers, social media)
73
DNS and server management
74
75
76
77
78
79
80
81
Pricing and Payment
82
We value transparency as a core piece of our business model.
83
84
Design and Development
85
86 Our basic pricing model starts at $300 for a landing page with an extra $100 87 per additional page, up to a maximum of $1000. More complex pages and custom 88 design work may require hourly billing, with a base rate of $80/hour for each 89 member working on a given task. 90
91 92
Web Hosting
93
While all our development hosting is done in-house, We rely on infrastructure 94 offered local companies like N+ Networks 95 and Grape Domains for long-term hosting and 96 domain registration. We can walk you through set-up or take responsibility over 97 keeping these systems live at a flexible rate of $10 to $30 per month depending 98 on domain name and cost of features (e.g. business email, NextCloud)
99 100
Upkeep and Maintenance
101
Our goal is to encourage your independence. Any clients who would like to 102 enlist our services for long-term website development and maintenance can expect 103 to pay anywhere from $250 to $500 per month for Bit By Bit to take responsibility 104 over their online presence. This may include backups, copy changes, SEO optimization, 105 server updates, and other services as necessary. Cancel at any time and we will 106 happily provide you with everything you need to move elsewhere or do it yourself. 107
108 109
Tutoring & Mentorship
110
111 We offer 1:1 lessons on web development, programming, system administration, and 112 anything else related to establishing your digital presence in the online world. 113 Our tutors set their own rates but you can expect to pay between $50 to $100 per 114 hour for individual instruction. Read more below. 115
116 117
118
119
120
121
122
Tutoring and Mentorship
123
We'll teach you how to teach yourself.
124
125
126 Aside from web development, the main service that we offer at Bit by Bit is education. 127 We believe that when people are enabled to make use of the tools at their disposal, 128 the whole community benefits from the extra hands. 129
130
131 Our goal is to enable people to take full responsibility over their digital identity. 132 This involves knowing how to host a website, knowing how to customize that website, 133 and how to add interactive features to make a page that works for them. From there, 134 we can start diving into the cool stuff you can do with your very own server. 135
136 137
What do you teach?
138
139 The most important, fundamental skill we teach is "computation", specifically within 140 the context of Linux systems. Being able to program in Python means very little 141 without the context of what a Python script is and why you might need one. Unlike 142 "programming bootcamps" and similar forms of education, we make sure that your 143 understanding is grounded in real-world use cases - not just adding bullet points 144 to your resumé. Over time, you'll gain understanding around what the "shell" is 145 and how it can be used to program computers to do all sorts of cool stuff. 146
147 148
149 We use a variety of programming languages in our toolbelt. The core of our S☉LAR toolkit 150 is written with HTML, CSS, Javascript, Python, and BASH. We also integrate a number 151 of different libraries written in C, C++, Rust, and Haskell. While most of our tooling relies on vanilla JS, we also have experience using frameworks such as VueJS, ReactJS, Svelte, and more. No matter what you want to build, we have the wisdom to back you up. 152
153 154

155
Mentorship
156
157 A step beyond tutoring, our mentorship program is available for anyone who wants to 158 gain real-world experience in their field of choice. We offer members the opportunity 159 to step into a leadership role within our space and kickstart their career with 160 hands-on application of the skills they've developed. See mentorship for more details. 161
162 163 164
165
Pricing Summary
166
167
168
169
Service
170
Description
171
Est.
